Objective: To investigate the safety and effectiveness of Tui Na as treatment for spasticity in the muscles of patients suffering from stroke. Study design: This cross-sectional study examined the effects of Tui Na on muscle spasticity in stroke survivors. A sample of fourteen stroke patients with normal neurological functions were randomly assigned to two groups. They were treated with Tui Na (nontraditional therapy) or regular medical treatment paired with physical therapy for four months following their stroke. Researchers conducted a test of physical function and muscle weakness at the end of the 4 month period.













There was a significant impact of Tui Na on the mean improvement in mean disability score (MDS) however, there was no effect on improvement in the mean muscle function or muscle function at the end of the follow-up.
